New Blood! LOWER BERTH, SPETSNAZ and WILDCAT

May 28th, 2015 by

“New Blood” is our weekly feature spotlighting new bands from around the world! See below for info on how to submit. Now, check out some killer new shit…

Band name:
LOWER BERTH

Date & location formed:
Lower Berth is from Montopolis, TX, an outskirt of Austin, TX. Originated in the winter of 2014. Other ensembles include Sick Van, Massagenist, Injuries, Dikes of Holland, etc.

LowerBerth

Reason for forming:
Formed due to the lack of local intelligence.

What are your lyrics about?
All lyrics are written by Hunter and include topics including but not limited to; murdering sexual assaulters, going to jail, finding food, getting murdered and finding true love.

How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is loud. Delay on vocals most-times.

What’s in the future for this band?
The future of Lower Berth is to spread our disease with other people punks.

Spetsnaz

Spetsnaz (photo by Skankboi69)

Band name:
SPETSNAZ (formerly CRIME ZONE)

Date & location formed:
Spring 2014, Portland, OR.

Reason for forming:
Wanting to force people to face up to realities that they don’t usually want to think about.

What are your lyrics about?
The idea of “no war and no police state” is a fantasy. Our lyrics talk about how we are trapped in a system with war and total control and how there’s no escape.

How would you describe your sound?
We try to the best of our abilities to create harsh, unpleasant anti-music. Influence from Finnish and Japanese hardcore.

What’s in the future for this band?
Touring and records. Bumming people out.

Wildcat

Band name:
WILDCAT

Date & location formed:
Summer 2014, Minneapolis.

Reason for forming:
Most of us have been friends for a long time and have always wanted to play music, now we’re all sticking around in one place long enough to make it happen.

What are your lyrics about?
Some are about personal process, things that hold you back in your mind and what it takes to get through them and things that happen in life that have been impactful or big in some way personally. some are about what’s happening in the environment that are important to us. and observations of the world we’re living in.

How would you describe your sound?
Vocal melody is real important to us. it seems to be overlooked in too many bands. some of our stuff is real pop-punky, and some is even blues-rock or real early metal. slow to medium tempo, we don’t play too fast. some of it’s more rock and less punk, there’s guitar solos.

What’s in the future for this band?
More recording. Dave our bass player just recorded our demo, which was super fun and a huge learning experience for those of us that have never recorded anything before. we’re also planning a west coast tour in late July.

Touring Europe with Berkeley, CA’s STREET EATERS… part 2!

LEVITATIONS and STREET EATERS flashing the sign of the mysterious/deadly CC In Hanover, Germany

In the fall of 2014, STREET EATERS went on our second tour of Europe. We released our new album Blood::Muscles::Bones in Europe on Cologne’s Contraszt! Records and in North America on Nervous Intent Records. We booked the tour ourselves, and played shows pretty much every night for almost two months straight in eleven countries from the UK to Germany to Spain to Serbia.

We played with a lot of excellent bands, and we tried to document them for this tour report as much as possible with our limited means to bring back to the bay area and share with our ever-intrepid local punk rag, MRR. We are not professional photographers and a lot of the videos and photos we took were shot with a cheap-ass camera phone in some seriously dark spaces, so sorry if they are a little blurry or blown-out or whatnot. Still, the ones you see here are good enough for the internet and I think they get the point across, and can give you a peek at some excellent bands that you might have heard of but not actually seen.

A lot of these bands can be heard on a new compilation tape called Frequency of the Truewave that you can listen to online and/or mailorder direct at Nervous Intent Records (North America) or Contraszt! Records (Europe).

Part II: More wild-style tour routing through Hungary, Serbia, more Germany and the UK, Italy, and Austria. (See part one here.)
