New Blood! THE LION’S CAGE, COMPLEX, AGUIRRE’S DOGS, and DIAS AZULES

May 25th, 2017 by

“New Blood” is our weekly feature spotlighting new bands from around the world! See below for info on how to submit. Now, check out some killer new shit…

Band name:

THE LION’S CAGE

Date & location formed:
June 2016, Brooklyn NY.

Reason for forming:
We got together pretty quickly and naturally, I (Joe) hit up my longtime friend (Brian) about potentially doing a band. I told him I had a singer in mind (Bobby) and he mentioned that he knew someone who might be down to play drums (Rob). Within a month or two we had a few songs written and by the end of summer 2016 we started playing gigs regularly around New York.

What are your lyrics about?
Running from the cops, beating up racists, supporting all marginalized people in a fight for equality, having fun and kissing. :)

How would you describe your sound?
Other people have described our sound as similar to the Before The Quarrel Cro-Mags demo, Madball – Ball of Destruction, Gut Instinct, and a few others. We never really sat down with a specific style to try and emulate, we tend to borrow from all over the place. We just wrote songs that we ourselves would want to hear.

What’s in the future for this band?
More shows, more jams, and hopefully a record sometime soon.

Band name:
COMPLEX

Date & location formed:
July 2016, Philadelphia.

Reason for forming:
To cause a ruckus for the mutants.

What are your lyrics about?
If your brain was a series of filing cabinets, it’s the file where all the negative observations go while trying to live a positive life, but failing and succeeding simultaneously.

How would you describe your sound?
Pissed pogo punk, influenced by life and all the shit that goes with it.

What’s in the future for this band?
We just released our tape last month and we’re gettin ready to play Philly Still Fucking Shreds fest next month. Working on recording for a 7″ that we can have on a midwest(ish) tour come November.

Band name:
AGUIRRE’S DOGS

Date & location formed:
Valentine’s Day 2016 B More MD.

Reason for forming:
We had all known each other for a hot minute and talked a bunch of shit about getting together until shit got real… real shitty.

What are your lyrics about?
They’re just stories that attempt to convey a feeling, and maybe give some truth or a lesson.

How would you describe your sound?
God’s fingernails on a cosmic chalkboard.

What’s in the future for this band?
Some Blade Runner shit, hopefully.

Band name:
DIAS AZULES

Date & location formed:
May 2016, New York.

Reason for forming:
All members of Dias Azules play in different NY Latino-Punk bands. Renzo plays guitar in R-Tronika, Maria plays drums with Ratas en Zelo and Amor Prohibido, and Dani plays Bass in Subtropico Militia Heavy Sound.

We are all from Peru and getting together to play music is a way we share our experiences and discover the musical and cultural connection between us.

Cover artwork by Renzo Ortega

Dias Azules is a side project and a collaboration for all of us. This makes it less stressful than playing in a regular band and allows more freedom in terms of musical interpretation. Renzo writes the songs and Maria and Dani add their own musical forms to the tracks.

What are your lyrics about?
Our music is Inspired by Punk Rock and South American Popular Music, so our lyrics are about life experiences, love, personal relationships, and politics.

How would you describe your sound?
Distorted Love Songs.

What’s in the future for this band?
In January 2017 we released our EP on Cassette called “24 Oceanos”. We also have one track in the “Tamboreras” punk compilation. In the summer we will play a People Of Color Punk Fest in NY. We want to play more shows in cities outside of NY, record new tracks and look forward to visiting the west coast, and of course getting together to play in our hometown Lima, Peru.

New Blood! SIN CAVE, NERVOUS WRECK, FUTURE TERROR, LOSST, FLOZ, and DOG PRISON

May 18th, 2017 by

“New Blood” is our weekly feature spotlighting new bands from around the world! See below for info on how to submit. Now, check out some killer new shit…

Artwork by Trish Bryant

Band name:
SIN CAVE

Date & location formed:
February of 2016 in Denver, Colorado.

Reason for forming:
We sought each other out because we wanted to have fun and create together, to produce and learn on our own terms.

What are your lyrics about?
We sing about our identities and struggles. Our songs touch on themes like: straddling cultures, police brutality, racism, white fragility, and our experiences in the scene/community/life. Our songs are part of our resistance.

How would you describe your sound?
Sass punk pa la gente.

What’s in the future for this band?
We just finished our first tour and put out our second tape, but as far as the future goes we have no expectations. Distance is a factor in getting together and this project has evolved into something very important to us.

Band name:
NERVOUS WRECK

Date & location formed:
Chicago, 2017.

Reason for forming:
We all wanted to make music with other rad folks. Many of us have made music before but never quite fit in, out of anxiety from feeling underrepresented as queer, non-binary humans. When we discovered other queerdos in Chicago, we found a way to collaborate on a positive, creative outlet to talk about and deal with the anxiety-inducing world we live in. We also wanted it to be a political project, making punk a threat again, and making shows more than just some straight, white cisdudes playing music in hype bands.

What are your lyrics about?
Nervous Wreck is by and for queer, anxious punks. Our music is weird and funky and so are we. As a band (lyrically, in the shows we play, etc) and in our daily lives (as activists, organizers, etc), we challenge abuse & trauma, homophobia & transphobia, fascism, white supremacy, anti-semitism, the current presidency & political climate, as well as the anxiety and anger that are a product of this garbage.

How would you describe your sound?
Nervous post-punk. Think LiLiPUT, Delta 5, Big Boys, early RHCP. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

What’s in the future for this band?
It’s unclear, but summer sure is gonna be fun! We will be playing with other rad, queer & trans punk bands at Fed Up Fest in Chicago this July. We also just finished a mini-tour, bringing the good word to the rest of the Nervous Nation. Anything we do will hopefully push beyond apolitical punk shows, and go hand-in-hand with playing benefits, book fairs, workshops, and more.

Band name:
FUTURE TERROR

Date & location formed:
1/20/2017 Richmond, VA

Reason for forming:
To play straight forward fast punk. I think everyone was kinda bored with what they had been doing and wanted to do something a little different. Justin (guitar) typically does vocals, Jeremy (vocals) usually plays drums, Adam (guitar) usually plays bass, and this is Mackenzie’s first band so it’s a fresh start for everyone. Plus we all love Swedish and Japanese-influenced hardcore punk. It all kinda fell into place. Alex just recently showed up and started playing drums so no one is really sure what his agenda is yet.

What are your lyrics about?
Anti-religion, horrors of war, moronic scum, and nuclear annihilation. On the one hand we aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel with this band but on the other hand it’s all become increasingly relevant given the current administration and political climate we’re immersed in.

How would you describe your sound?
Fast and pissed, influenced by Japanese and Swedish hardcore punk bands with an affinity for pedals.

What’s in the future for this band?
Terror, duh. And we’ll probably play some shows.

Links and contact info:
Feel free to contact us at with any weird barn, basement, or sewer shows you’d like us to play.
futureterror.bandcamp.com/releases
We’ll be making demo cassettes soon.

barbed-wire-500x12

Band name:

LOSST

Date & location formed:
Somewhere around 2016. The band originally from Mentakab, Pahang; Malaysia. Currently we’re: me on vocals, Dean on guitar, Bopix on bass, and Fazrul on drums.

Reason for forming:
We love Hardcore and Punk.

What are your lyrics about?
Almost always about typical stuff, lyrics center around what happens in our everyday lives.

How would you describe your sound?
Hardcore!

What’s in the future for this band?
We’re in the middle of writing new songs for an upcoming EP. We’ll be playing more shows and probably start touring.

Links and contact info:

lossthc.bandcamp.com

barbed-wire-500x12

Band name:
FLOZ

Date & location formed:
February, 2017.

Reason for forming:
We wanted make the sound that people can relate to (and slam).

What are your lyrics about?
Police brutality, ignorance in the community, Trump, racism.

How would you describe your sound?
Sounds like being broke, bumming cigs, drinking other people’s beer, crashing apartment complex pools, and everything else you wish you were doing right now.

What’s in the future for this band?
Right now we’re all helping Jake draft a text message. Later maybe we’ll get some drinks. Eventually, touring and records.

barbed-wire-500x12

Band name:
DOG PRISON

Date & location formed:
LIL RAWK ARKANSAS AUGUST 2017.

Reason for forming:
TO MAKE ZINGERS FOR ALL THE VARMITS WITHOUT HOMES OR PROPER LUV.

What are your lyrics about?
BEING SEXY AND DIRTY, HUMANS BEING DEMONS, FRANK (A DOG), AND HOW SOCIETY DEEMS WOMENS BODIES AS PUBLIC PROPERTY.

How would you describe your sound?
LOUD, OUT OF TUNE, DOOMY.

What’s in the future for this band?
A TOUR OF ALL THE ANIMAL SHELTERS THAT’LL PUT JOHNNY CASH’S FOLSOM PRISON SHIT TA SHAME. LIBERATE ALL THEM POOR BABIES!!!

May 14th, 2017 by

So we were all set to do a radio show, and then a more grizzled Pete and Langford appeared in a flash of light. They told us they were from a dark future where we had fucked up the radio show, tied us up, and recorded the show themselves. It came out OK.

Play

A throwback for an intro song? Crazy future us. They must know things we don’t.
Q-FACTOR – I’m Not That Stupid

They spoke a strange version of out language and drank only strange brews in unmarked containers. They got pretty wasted.

This is what new releases from the future sound like. Huh, poppy.
THIGH MASTER – Whiplash
PROTEX – I Wonder Why
BBQ – Rock Me
CENTURY PALM – King of John Street
MARK WYNN – Massive

Apparently at one point we bum out Jerry? Oh shit man, we’re totally fucking sorry in advance.
HAIL MARY – Residue
HOSE GOT CABLE – Chevy Chase Motherfucker
HAMMERHEAD – MIA
HONOR ROLE – Bowling For Bibles
HONEYWELL – Undesirable

Man, new music from the future is pretty sweet all in all.
BLANK SQUARE – Empty Head
PLAYBOY – The Weather
CEREAL KILLER – I Don’t Want Any Sandwiches
CAREER SUICIDE – Borrowed Time
DE KIFT – Vlijt

Come to think of it, I should have asked for stock tips instead of more future music.
MOVING TARGETS – Never
RAIN LIKE THE SOUND OF TRAINS – What I Want
GIVE – Do You Feel
HUMMINGBIRD OF DEATH – All 12 songs from split 5″ with BEARTRAP

Apparently in the future Poland is still there. Cool, I’d be bummed if I never got a chance to go.
EL BANDA – Gwałtgłosy
