MRR Comics & Art Issue Artist Q&A with Annie Mok

This month’s MRR magazine is the Comics & Art Issue! Throughout March we are highlighting some of the participating artists right here on MRR.com. Today we hear from Annie Mok from Philadelphia, PA.

What are your main publishing projects?
I publish Swim Thru Fire drawn by Sophia Foster-Dimino on Hazlitt, and I make things for Rookie Magazine. I also self-publish comic books and zines.

What are some of your artistic influences?
I love expressionistic cartoonists like Maré Odomo, Cathy G. Johnson and Sam Alden.

Musical influences?
Post-punk, the Smiths, Kanye, Drake, TSwift.

How would you describe your style of drawing?
Back and forth, hand to computer, as above / so below. Ratty and leaky.

What other punk projects are you involved with?
I sing in the pop band See-Through Girls.

What’s in the future for you as a cartoonist/artist?
Comic boooookssss, long ones, a.k.a. “graphic novels,” by me solo, and by me as a collaborator/writer with other co-writers/artists.
