Adding a photo — the short version:
Scroll down for the longer, more detailed version

Note: you must format the photo(s) you are uploading first! See the beginning of the long version for instructions. Then, in your post…

1. Create an extra space between paragraphs where you want the photo to go, place your cursor in the middle of the gap and click the Add Media button in the upper-left.

2. Click Upload Files, then “Select Files” or drag-and-drop to upload photo(s).

3. After upload is complete, check-mark only the photo you are inserting, then in the right panel of that same window:
— Type in the caption, including photo credit
— Choose alignment (“Right,” “Left” or “None” — never use “Center”)
— Link To: should always say “Media File”
— Choose size (always use Medium or Large and adjust smaller after inserting, if necessary)
— Click “insert into post”

4. To adjust photo size, change alignment, or edit caption, be sure you’re in Visual mode (click “Visual” tab in upper-right), click once on the photo then click on the blue icon that appears in the upper-left of the photo.
— You can also adjust the size by clicking once on the photo and moving the handles that appear around the photo.
Do not enlarge the photo — this will cause it to show up pixelated and blurry. If you inserted the photo at “Medium” size and want it bigger, delete the photo from the post, click “Add Media” (do not re-upload it), select the photo from the Media Library and re-insert it at “Large” size, then re-size it down if necessary.

5. To move a photo within the post, either delete and re-insert the photo (see above) or go into Text mode (click “Text” tab in upper-right), find the block of code for the photo (between the paragraphs where you inserted it) and cut-and-paste that code to another location — always place it in an extra space between two paragraphs. Be sure to delete extra space where you removed the code.

HOW TO ADD A PHOTO OR IMAGE TO YOUR POST — the detailed version:

If you’re using a photo from the internet, DOWNLOAD the photo to your computer. If the photo is from a camera, copy the photo to you computer.

If you are on a Mac, open the photo using the Preview application by dragging it to the Preview icon in the dock at the bottom of the screen, or by opening the Preview application, selecting File>Open… and choosing your image.  [I do not know how to do this in Windows. Anyone want to let me know? —Paul]

With the photo open in Preview, select Tools > Adjust size…

If the photo is more than 600 pixels wide or 600 pixels tall, or if the resolution is greater than 72 pixels/inch, RESIZE it to make the longest side 600 pixels and the resolution 72 pixels/inch. If it is already smaller, then you can skip the next step. If you know your way around Photoshop, you can use the same settings as above under Image>Image Size…

SAVE it in JPEG format only.

Give the file a name that identifies the band/subject — i.e, “the_shitfucks.jpg”, not “IMG_1936.jpg”

———————————-

In your post in WordPress, in Text mode, place your cursor right before the paragraph where you want the image to appear and hit return twice, place the cursor right between the two paragraphs vertically. If you are placing the image in-line (without any text wrapping around it) then the image will appear right here. If you want the image on the right or the left, with text wrapping around it, the image will appear within the following paragraph (see fig. X).

Click the Add Media button.
