Otherized

Band name:
OTHERIZED

Date & location formed:
October 2014, Santa Ana, CA.

Reason for forming:
Heaven and Stephanie talked for a long time about starting a band, but that was as far as the concept went. Stephanie and I started practicing on our own and wrote a song Called “Struggle of Your Life,” but she didn’t feel confident about her singing abilities. She had the idea to finally see if Heaven would be willing to join us and sing it, and after a few brief practices, we all decided to write songs together and see if we could make something happen collectively. Unbeknownst to our friends, we practiced on the down low for an entire year before coming out in October to our friends and releasing a demo we had secretly recorded. The name “Otherized” comes from critical theory, where “the Other” signifies something marginalized and foreign to the self; when the familiar becomes the unfamiliar, it becomes Otherized and consequently becomes terrifying to the normal/static.

What are your lyrics about?
Our lyrics are based on relatable themes, we keep the content pretty simple and straightforward. Our songs talk about punk elitism, marginalization, rumors and negativity in the scene, feminism, questioning social norms, etc.

How would you describe your sound?
It’s a weird mix of d-beat, hardcore, with melodic fast tendencies like the Germs.

What’s in the future for this band?
We’re writing more songs and increasing our catalog. In the midst of this, we’re just aiming to play more shows and have a good time doing it.

barbed-wire-500x12 SIEVEHEAD

Band name:
SIEVEHEAD

Date & location formed:
Spring 2014 in Sheffield, UK.

Reason for forming:
We’re three old friends who all ended up living in Sheffield. We’ve all got roots in the DIY Community here and we all share an open minded view on punk and rock and roll, so we decided to start sievehead with no real agenda or specific sound we wanted to create.

What are your lyrics about?
Personal politics, surroundings, dreams, nightmares and imagination.

How would you describe your sound?
People have compared our sound to Northwest American bands like the Estranged/Wipers or 80’s UK stuff like Killing Joke/Joy Division. But like I said, we never aimed to sound like anything in particular, it just came out that way!

What’s in the future for this band?
Our first 7” just came out through the DIY space we’re involved in’s own label (Kids of the Lughole) Which you can order from the Bandcamp link. We’ve just started recording for an 8 track 12” which should be out in the summer through Milk Run Records and Evil Hoodoo Records. We’ll be playing gigs all over the shops throughout the year.

The impending police state and constant police brutality that surrounds us. Isolation and being an outsider to the world around us. the mentality and feelings of growing up in a dog eat dog working class wasteland.

Hardcore Punk influenced by Oi, early NYHC ala the abused and agnostic front and LA punk ala X, The Gun Club.

What’s in the future for this band?
we just released a demo tape in December, which is being released on 7″ by Six Feet Under Records soon. We want to play as much as possible and hopefully do a couple weeks this year and record/release a proper 7″ by the end of the year.
