Video of the Week: Welcome Friends

One of the first rules of storytelling is “show, don’t tell.” Jordan E. Lopez adheres well to that rule, and so will we… So sit back watch this nice little 5-minute film about Carbondale, IL‘s long-running punk house, Lost Cross.

Wow, so happy to see this exists — I know MRR has run pieces about it previously. I lived in Carbondale in 1995, when my brother-in-law at the time, Stu, played drums for iconic Nitro Jr., who recorded two fine 45 singles. The guitarist John lived there. I actually practiced a short while there too, trying to play bass, with Stu and a student friend, covering the likes of No Means No, which I fumbled like hell. The house is legendary, and somewhere in the basement I lost old punk videotapes. The best part — I filmed a short b/w 8mm film there — a fake Tarantino shoot-out hi-jinx. I’ll share this film with others! Thanks for posting and making the movie!
