Birds on a Kill Brace for Impact LP
Classic post-hardcore affair, like a poppier FUGAZI. Very polished recording—really loved the reverb on the drums, it gives them that nostalgic ’80s feel akin to latter-era HÜSKER DÜ and REPLACEMENTS. What really stands out the most to me are the vocals completely clashing with guitar work. Sounds like a complaint, but it’s an awesome combination. While the guitars are melodic and oftentimes airy and flowery, the singer is brash and comes with a bite. There are tracks where the music mirrors the energy of the front man—”Pinion” and “Desert Mind,” for example, have much doomier energy—but a large chunk of this slab is twisted pop/rock anthems. Great stuff.
