Body Maintenance Far From Here LP

If you, like me, are just hearing of this Melbourne-based post-punk band, then listen up: BODY MAINTENANCE may become your latest obsession. This is their second LP, after 2023’s Beside YouFar From Here stands up with ’80s UK greats like First and Last and Always and In the Flat Field, with the vocal authority of The Black Album-era Dave Vanian. I hear lots of jangly acoustic guitar, keeping rhythm with the tom-heavy drums, under tragic electric riffs, soaring synths, and gurgling bass. The rhythms have a danceable gait to them, contrasting with the dark and downcast nature of the melodies and lyrics. This will easily make my year-end top ten list. Gripping, heartfelt, melancholic and bold.

Body Maintenance Beside You LP

It’s not often a post-punk band is able to find a groove and ride it to the precipice. BODY MAINTENANCE from the United Kingdom is able to find a groove quickly and jam their icy guitar work into the darker corners of rock with their danceable rhythm section. KILLING JOKE meets the SMITHS in a back alley rumble: cold, spacy, and full of hard-hitting twists.

Body Maintenance Body Maintenance 12″

Following a demo tape and live tape, Melbourne’s BODY MAINTENANCE is back with these six tracks of excellent sometimes upbeat, sometimes gloomy post-punk in which melody is the true conductor and the “punk” part is really prevalent. This dichotomy of moods is what makes this band stand out. If you vibe with Second Empire Justice-era BLITZ, this record should be on your list.
