Middleman Following the Ghost LP
MIDDLEMAN’s Following the Ghost is nine tracks of guitar-forward alternative rock from this London four-piece, and if, like me, you spent the ’90s actively avoiding this brand of emotionally-exposed, nasal-tenor alt-rock, congratulations! Your instincts were sound. The singer brings Doug Martsch to mind, which is either a selling point or a warning label depending on your relationship with BUILT TO SPILL. The band occasionally locks into something worth hearing, but that juice is definitely not worth the full 26-minute squeeze. They’re supporting SUPERCHUNK on tour this month, so maybe if you like that kind of music you’ll dig this release?
