While the definition of “grungegaze” isn’t hard to understand, it is a new-to-me term. And if this record is any indication of the genre, I’ll say I fucking love it. Pōneke, Aotearoa’s (Wellington, NZ) CRUELLY are out with their debut EP, showcasing noise, melody, bleeding-reverb guitars, and sun-soaked female vocals. Do you need an aggressive cry? Maybe to light a candle, stomp around in your boots, and scream into a mirror? Then this record may too be for you. High energy and venom; dour mood and heartache.
