Adult Magic Are You Even Happy Now? LP
It’s been over seven years since their pre-pandemic debut album, and ADULT MAGIC is back with the same heart-on-sleeve ethos but tighter, more focused, and more earnest. The mid-tempo heavy guitars have that sound that might have originated somewhere before SEAWEED, matured through FUTURE VIRGINS (R.I.P. SEXY), and currently landing with DEAD BARS. Lyrically, they have the insistent honesty and authenticity of CAVES and RVIVR. Songs like “Burned Out” and “Sore Eyes” cautiously and nostalgically lament past and current times. “A Little Light” is an early ’00s burner, and “Drift and Drive” could have come from Paul Westerberg’s canon. All members contribute vocally and lyrically, and have quite the past and present pedigree in IRON CHIC, BROADCASTER, CROW BAIT, SISTER KISSER, RADAR, and GET BENT. Hopefully we don’t have to wait another seven years for the next one.
