The Grimly Pleased Do Nice Things EP
It’s fun, it’s bouncy, it’s cowpunk! It’s packing a little more fun than I usually go for, but it’s weird enough to keep my attention. The vocals kinda have a Jello Biafra/DEAD KENNEDYS vibe, albeit less menacing. Lyrically, it’s intelligent, sardonic, and downright fun, like early VANDALS without the nihilism “He found that hat / Now he thinks he’s a fucking marine.” I have a cousin like that, true story, a total dipshit! There’s an undeniable THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS influence to the music, and even a little MEAT PUPPETS, too. It’s got a weird energy with cool intertwining guitar leads. The album art is a perfect companion to the nature of these tunes, silly and sinister, which is an excellent way of describing GRIMLY PLEASED.
