Repeat Offender Weapon Fetish LP
Burly debut full-length from Southern California’s REPEAT OFFENDER. This album fits neatly into the Convulse catalog. The band is incredibly tight, wound-up, and primed to detonate. Crystal clear production allows all the nuisance to cut through, and there is more articulation than can be found on most hardcore records. Nothing subtle to be found here—everything is direct and in-your-face. The riffs are lean, complex yet digestible, with prominent bass runs for added spice. The deep and guttural vocals sound as though they’re delivered from the frothing mouth of a rabid beast. The songs feel hewn from familiar materials with some sequence of blazing fast punk to pogo beat or breakdown and fast again sensibility, but they’re not predictable or formulaic. My sole gripe is that the squeaky-clean recording quality cuts against the intensity a bit. How’s that for an insult? Your record sounds too good so I don’t like it as much as I could’ve! If ya dig ALIENATOR, S.H.I.T., or ARMOR, this should find its way into your rotation.
