Moody Goods Southern Lights LP

First off, I love the cover art for this slab. Just some blokes hanging out having a pint. It looks like a photo some random bar would post on their Facebook page, but there’s an aura to it. I think it has something to do with the throwback Best Buy Series sticker pasted on it. Anyway, this is a really solid release here. Modern pub rock with a garage punk twist. Powerful vocals that bring to mind D. Boon paired with melodic, noodly leads. There’s a violin intermittently thrown into the mix every so often, and it’s such a lovely little addition that I wish it was featured more prominently. This might make me sound like a total dumbass, but I was a bit shocked to see these folks were from across the pond. This has a very North American sound to it. A little more aggressive, a little heavier on the power chords, with dynamics pushed into the stratosphere. They’d be right at home in Chicago. Spin this a few times and you’ll see what I mean.
