Now this is the kind of music obsessive, crate-digging, lifer stuff that can only feel like a fever dream once unearthed! Over fifty years in hiding, these two tracks from the short-lived project of future DAMNED guitarist Brian James and future ELTON MOTELLO frontperson Alan Ward have been unleashed on the masses. “Doctor Gong” is exactly what you would hope for, given the era and the pedigree: a rollicking, sleazy, four-minute affair crammed with riffs and attitude. The B-side opts for a bit more fretboard exploration, taking on an almost heavy psych feeling that wouldn’t be too out of place on a Brown Acid compilation if they expanded to sounds across the pond. Absolutely essential listening for the curious, the completist, and the casual.
