Ile de Garde Rage Blossom 12″
Taking their name from the Benedictine abbess and polymath Hildegard of Bingen, ILE DE GARDE presents their debut 12”, Rage Blossom. Consisting of three women on keys, drums, and vocals, this trio performs driving, melodic, and dark synthwave-adjacent songs. Evident in the album title, elements of anger and bitterness inform these six tracks, with lyrics like “Heard you said I’m such a slut / I don’t think I give a fuck” from “Birthday Girl.” From the album artwork to the shadowy synth lines to the lyrical tension, the whole thing feels like it’s cloaked in Hildegard’s medieval mysticism—perhaps not in practice, but in symbolism. Calling this “spooky” is too cheap, and doesn’t do it justice. It’s angry and urgent and evocative and it might just make your night.
