Odor Eater But For Who? LP
Olympia/Portland-based ODOR EATER released their first long-format album last month. The eleven-song But For Who? LP is a synth-driven voyage that brings elements of classic new wave to support lyrics that poetically criticize our current authoritarian world. Using the time-tested artistic method of disarming oppressive forces through abstract whimsy, ODOR EATER has created an album that is as much fun and sweetness as it is aggressive denunciation. While it’s easy to pick out DEVO, the B-52’S, the MOTELS, DEPECHE MODE, and the like in ODOR EATER’s sound, I’m more frequently reminded of 2005’s Stop the Future by the EPOXIES. Either way, ODOR EATER creates synth punk that is easily digestible and endlessly danceable.
