Painist Too Many Clunkers cassette
Hell yeah. Piano-based crust with ultra distortion and hollered vocals. No guitars or bass because PAINIST (get it, like a pianist but with pain?) doesn’t need them. Not too many background details on this four-song tape, but the songs blast and have a weighty sense of depth to them. It reminds me a little of BOTANIST, the hammered-dulcimer-based black metal project, just in the sense that the unconventional instrumentation takes you aback for a minute and then proceeds to absolutely shred. Opening track “Crustaccatto” has such a good title, and it rips. I would love to see PAINIST do a tour of airport lounges or piano bars and annihilate them with this 88-keyed weapon.
