Planet on a Chain Ritual Routine LP

Twelve new stompers from one of Oakland hardcore’s finest. Big, beefy guitars and powerhouse drumming kick you in the ass while youth-crew-style vocals teach you a lesson with thoughtful, introspective lyrics. There’s more substance and attention to detail here than typically found in this style, right down to the crystal-clear production. I’d chalk it up to the band’s collective pedigree; obviously, they’ve been around the block and know their shit. A massive record that’s engaging from start to finish.

Oakland acid-to-the-veins hardcore punkers deliver twelve blunt force ragers filled with an exquisite anger and precision in the execution of their ball of sound. Fast-paced, urgent, and cathartic vibes in a racket of harsh, nails-and-glass tracks that come like punch after punch. Breakdowns are good abuse, and specifically flawless in taking speedy cadences and momentum. Solid fire record, and a project that’s probably great live.

Follow-up release to the demo/first 7” by Oakland/Austin’s P.O.A.C. At the risk of name-dropping, it is an unavoidable fact that the band consists of ’90’s and ’00s Bay Area punk veterans from TALK IS POISON, LOOK BACK AND LAUGH, and NEEDLES, as well as New Jersey thrashers TEAR IT UP. Similar to their previous outputs, it consists of the signature Bay Area-style raging, dark hardcore punk somewhere along the lines of CHRIST ON PARADE and early NEUROSIS, before they went out on the limb to sonic experimentation. Based on the fierce intensity of the recording, it’s apparent these veterans are still raging as hard as they have since the beginning. Still DIY as fuck and relevant as it’s ever been.
