Smog Marines Scheme EP
Pressed in tandem with the band’s previously unreleased Opus LP, the three tracks here were hewed from the same 1980 recording session which has been unearthed by the good folks at Obsolete Universe. Deranged L.A. punk that fits right in with pre-hardcore greats of the era like the PLUGZ, the SCREAMERS, and BLACK RANDY AND THE METRO SQUAD. The opening track “Scheme” is a bona fide earworm that essentially demands repeated listens. The two other tracks are driven more by novelty and shock value, as evidenced by the song titles “Suffocation Plastic Bag,” and “Amazonian Throb.” In case you couldn’t tell, this all equates to KBD gold. Steer clear if you have no taste for the tasteless. Otherwise, this is a no-brainer in more ways than one.
