Troika Una Vida + Demo cassette
Discography release for this Madrid-based feminist punk outfit, covering both their demo and only 7″. Being Colombian, this first plucked the string of my memories of POLIKARPA Y SUS VICIOSAS, but with less of a tendency toward melody. Being Spanish, you can hear that base of ESKORBUTO, but maybe mix in some of the later, more idiosyncratic approaches of bands like LAS MORSAS. Regardless of comparison, this is simple, straight-to-the-point street punk with a lot to say and no patience for bullshit gender norms. Generally, this isn’t really my bag and I can’t say this is an exception, but I can appreciate it as a strong release for the genre and for what they’re trying to do. The lyrics in Spanish are beautifully full of rage, and my favorite thing on this is probably the vocals.
