THIRDFACE

  1. Date & location formed:

    Fall 2017 // Nashville, TN.

  2. How did your band come to be?

David wrote a lot of riffs and needed to find someone to play with him. Shibby wanted to bang out to those riffs. Maddy wanted to rip it on the low end. Kathryn is really pissed. We got together and made music.

  3. What are your lyrics about?

Abuser mutilation // making fun of toxic heymans and keyboard trolls // utter despair // etc. Just girly things.

  4. How would you describe your sound?

We are a hardcore punk band. You kids like Infest?

  5. List something or someone you think folks need to listen to right now.

Tom V, Long Con, and Shill.

  6. What’s in the future for this band?

Tour tour tour. Keep your eyes peeled. Hit us up if you want us to come to your town.

  1. Date & location formed:

    May 2017, in Fresno, CA.

  2. How did your band come to be?

Our friend Shawna, who was co-organizning the Universe Is Lit: Black and Brown Punk Festival in the Bay Area had encouraged us to start a band and play the New Band Showcase at the festival.

  3. What are your lyrics about?

Stories about Black womxn’s experiences with misogynoir, anti-blackness, historical erasure, respectability politics and capitalism.

  4. How would you describe your sound?

    A blend of punk/grunge/riot grrrl.

  5. List something or someone you think folks need to listen to right now.

Fatty Cakes and the Puff Pastries, Trap Girl, Fuck You Pay Us, Drama, Scrunchies, and Numb Mouth.

  6. What’s in the future for this band?

Recording and releasing our debut album. Play shows throughout the states and abroad! Collaborating with other BIWOC creatives on video and music projects.

GLOWING BRAIN

  1. Date & location formed:

    Summer 2017 CE. Oakland, CA.

  2. How did your band come to be?

A combination of friendship and frustration. We’ve all been in separate bands that played with each other and found ourselves becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the direction of our projects. The crushing weight of capitalism made us want to play fast.

  3. What are your lyrics about?

The lyrics tend to stray from personal and esoteric ideas in favor of the more direct or metaphoric. Entropy, the mind, consciousness & perception, the examination
of social behaviors, drugs, hating idiots. There’s also a song about the band itself which is a combination of many of these themes.

  4. How would you describe your sound?

Usually fast, always loud. A dark and ripping combination of punk, noise rock, NWOBHM, and some weed.

  5. List something or someone you think folks need to listen to right now.

    Henrik Palm from Sweden.
    Zeta from Venezuela.
    Wastelands from Miami.
    Funeral Chant from Oakland.
    Dearth from Oakland.
    Milk Bath from Oakland.

  6. What’s in the future for this band?

Our first EP/cassette was released recently and have a few local shows over the next few months. We’re working on material for an LP and would like to play outside of bay area and state. Book us, we’ll pretend to turn down when the sound engineer asks.

COP GRAVEYARD

Cop Graveyard (photo by Matthew Arthur Williams)
  1. Date & location formed:

Eliot: Cop Graveyard has largely been a solo effort until recently, perhaps june sort of time… when Finlay, Connell and Jacob joined in order to complete the sound I have been working on for years. Sporadic line-ups delayed such, but here it is. Started somewhere in late 2014, in north Wales, traveling through Manchester and Leeds and ending up where it is right now, slap bang in Glasgow.

  2. How did your band come to be?

Eliot: It only took a modicum of friendship dedication to become a “band,” but the project endures as a raging anxious expression of my bullshit need to make melodic shit guitar pop.

  3. What are your lyrics about?

Eliot: Most of my lyrics operate around the existential paradigm of queer isolation, work-place disillusionment and the socialist barrage of wanting everything to mean at least something.

  4. How would you describe your sound?

Eliot: Some kind of anxiety-free-cake for every creature trying to sound like some sort of Radiator Hospital ripoff, but probably sounding more like a Trust Fund ripoff.

  5. List something or someone you think folks need to listen to right now.

Eliot: People need to listen to Manchester-based solo trans artist The Happy Birthdays. They also need to listen to Glasgow weirdo pop band Rapid Tan, AND they should also be listening to oakland hunx UNITY as well as Brighton-based Garden Centre for their ongoing frantic lofi anxious pop.

  6. What’s in the future for this band?

Eliot: Record some shit, try & tour, be ignored, you know.
