Monday Photo Blog: Rad Party!

July 11th, 2011 by

Back in the ’90s I used to trade zines with a guy named Stéphane, from France. He did the awesome Rad Party zine (he also put out the translated Cometbus collections). I stopped doing my zine about ten years ago, but Stéphane has kept it up, with his 42nd issue due out this fall. All this leads into this week’s Photo Blog… Stéphane wrote to say hi, and sent along some photos he shot. Small world.

If you shoot shows and have photos you want to submit for the MRR Blog – or have old photos of a killer band – send them to: Be sure to put “MRR Photo Blog” in the subject. Include your name, the band, where and when it was shot. Just send your best photos – edit tightly. Three to five photos is plenty. And it’s best to send pictures of different bands, send a selection of your best photos. Please do not send watermarked photos. We like to exercise a little quality control here…not everything sent in will be posted. Please size your photos so they are about 600 pixels (72 dpi) at the longest side.

Monday Photo Blog: Tuesday edition

July 5th, 2011 by

Pardon my tardiness. Monday Photo Blog on Tuesday afternoon. I’m still recovering from eating my weight in hot dogs (about 986 of ’em), washing them down with Budweisers and chanting USA! USA! USA! in my best Tom Hopkins voice. A little hoarse, a little full. Thanks for your patience.

And what better way to celebrate the 4th of July than post a bunch of photos of killer European hardcore bands? Moritz Krehon shot these photos in Vienna back in March. Those of you on the East Coast of the US might have caught Ydinperhe on their rest tear through the States.

Monday Photo Blog: Cobwebs edition

June 27th, 2011 by

This morning I started scrolling through my inbox, looking at the long list of submissions we’ve gotten here for the Monday Photo Blog. I too a look at the dates and — wow — I noticed some good submissions that slipped through the cracks. Like this one. Neil Rathbun from Portland sent these a while ago, from shows he shot last year. Great photos, rescued from the bottomless pit of my inbox. A belated thanks for the submission, Neil!

Monday Photo Blog: Garage Grab Bag

June 20th, 2011 by

We don’t get nearly enough photos of garagey punk bands here. Plenty of shirtless, sweaty dudes screaming. I’m up to my ass in those, but decent rock ‘n’ roll/garage/weird punk photos? That shit is hard to come by…here’s a smattering of that ilk we’ve gotten over the past few weeks.

Monday Photo Blog: More from Indonesia

June 13th, 2011 by

What’s up with Indonesia? Of all the unsuspecting places, we get more killer photos from Indonesia than just about anywhere — killer in quality and the shows just look  manic, fun, insane. Take today’s installment from Dinda Advena. Great photos of Unholy Grave, Iron Lung and some local bands. Looks like a total blast!
