New Blood! BLACK COMMUNION, VIAL, and NIÉGALO TODO

January 7th, 2016 by

“New Blood” is our weekly feature spotlighting new bands from around the world! See below for info on how to submit. Now, check out some killer new shit…

Band name:
BLACK COMMUNION

Date & location formed:
Winter of 2014 was our first practice, but it took us until the summer of 2015 to really figure out what we were doing lineup wise, and to play our first show with the current lineup. We’re in Portland, Oregon.

Reason for forming:
I (Jason) played in a band called hell&reason when I first moved to Portland. Through playing shows, I got connected with Gareth (and his band Profits) and Phil (and his band Carrion Spring). Gareth and Phil are some of the most talented people I’ve ever had the opportunity to play with, and I was a big fan of both of their bands prior to our formation. The three of us had been in and out of projects over the past ~6 years we’ve known each other (Gareth and I have been in another band for the past 5 years), and have always been supportive of one another. Good timing, a little boredom, and everything “clicking” by the 2nd or 3rd practice were all contributing factors.

What are your lyrics about?
Destiny.

How would you describe your sound?
I think the best comparison that we’ve received so far was Cursed meets Isis. It’s a good comparison because we are loud, have some fast parts, have some heavy parts, but we also don’t lose track of the groove. So Cursed meets Isis, Converge meets Young Widows, Cave In meets Breather Resist. That kind of thing.

What’s in the future for this band?
More recording. We all toured and did that, and I think we’re good with being a little more settled into our region. So we will probably play in the PNW and maybe the west coast over the course of 2016. But more importantly, we will be recording more songs.

Band name:

Date & location formed:

Fall of 2013

Reason for forming:
So we could hang out with each other all the time and collaborate.

What are your lyrics about?
Standing up for what’s right, standing up for ourselves. Confronting the people / issues in our life that make us angry and need addressing. And then the lessons learned from all of it.

How would you describe your sound?
“Babies scratching on a guitar.” – K Fal

What’s in the future for this band?
“We don’t have a future!” – Italy Jon

Band name:
NIÉGALO TODO

Date & location formed:

We formed in early 2014 in the isolated Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas. Yes, that´s in Mexico.

Reason for forming:
We formed out of frustration of not having any hardcore snotty punk bands in Chiapas, we formed one, you know, DIY and stuff.

What are your lyrics about?
General alienation, frustation with life and that great feeling of stagnation when you reach certain age and realize how horrible everyone around you is.

How would you describe your sound?
I’d love to say raw, but that’s too pretentious and general, I mean, we love Wretched and Selena, so, who knows?. Just give a listen to our stuff and decide for yourself.
What’s in the future for this band?

Well, the guitar player and lead singer moved to Florida, so we don’t know. We’d love to tour the USA and release more stuff.
