“New Blood” is our weekly feature spotlighting new bands from around the world! See below for info on how to submit. Now, check out some killer new shit…

Band name:
BUTANNA

Date & location formed:
Oakland, 2014 (latest formation). ButannaLogo

Reason for forming:
Uh, fate? …. or…err…. to challenge what is means to be punk/pry open a spot for those who have to work harder to have their voices heard.

What are your lyrics about?
The strength and power of our communities; challenging societal assumptions around love, life, identity and power; and, fucking up any macho-shit that gets in the way of all that. we sing from our hearts — in a way that incorporates the pain, joy, desperation, rage, elation and isolation that comes with catching
only glimpses of a world where
everyone is given a shit about.

How would you describe your sound?
Straight-up punk with a riotglam/queerdo rage sparkle that destroys. we’re influenced by lots of music such as the plasmatics, lydia lunch, the continuum of east bay punk, erase errata, blood robots, ny dolls, damned, stooges, death, the early detroit pre-punk scene, anti-corpos and that basement show band who played once and then broke up.

What’s in the future for this band?
First: weird-butch-femme-sex-love, paying rent and tripping up shit-eating, gentrifying techies in the bay. second: continuing to hock our 7-song demotape (released summer 2015), releasing a LP (soon!) and touring US/Canada this Spring/Summer (let us know if we can sleep on your floor and pet your punk dogs).
third: our next shows are on Dec 5th at the Octopus Literary Salon in Oakland and Jan 22nd at El Rio in San Francisco (it’s a benefit for transprisoners and TGIJP — Transgender Identified Justice Project)

Band name:
BIG BLEACH big bleach button

Date & location formed:
The Bleach Gang first appeared on March 23, 2015, at the Porn Hall in Hattiesburg, MS. We formed shortly before that show.

Reason for forming:
Most of us are in another band together but wanted to play different instruments and a different style. We wanted to form a band that was more upbeat and groovy.

What are your lyrics about?
Our lyrics are all about goofy shit like beavas, drinking bleach, and biker love. We have one song that talks trash on rednecks who fly confederate flags. We’ve got a few songs about pleasure leather, too.

Bug Bleach
Big Bleach

How would you describe your sound?
One of our friends said we sounded like we were “bonged out”. We just play fast punk stuff.

What’s in the future for this band?
We’re going on a 10 day tour in January 2016 to spread the beava luv and have a couple tapes and a hopeful 7 inch in the works. The Bleach Army marches on.

Band name:
NUEVA FUERZA

Date & location formed:
July 2015, Barcelona, Spain.

Reason for forming:
The scene of Spain is getting older, there aren’t new bands made by young people, and we are the youngest ones at most of the shows, which is so sad. We’re trying to attract more people to this little world, but we need more good bands that don’t all sound and look the same. So we decided to start to change that and Xavi and I (David) (both from AnarquÁa Vertical) started to practice this past summer to prepare Nueva Fuerza.

What are your lyrics about?
I write about many different things, but it all could be summed up as the vision of an angry kid disappointed about the present, who wants the youth of Spain to be all united, showing the world that we can do something interesting too.

How would you describe your sound?
We can’t define our sound by throwing around a couple of band or scene names, because we just did whatever we wanted for this first EP. It’s 80s hardcore, and some people might say that it sounds like a mix of Boston bands (like DYS and Last Rights) with late 80s NYHC, sung in Spanish.

What’s in the future for this band?
We want to tour Spain. We want to record more and better songs. And we want to release this first EP on a label, but we don’t have many contacts to do that yet, so we will just try to do it.
