New Blood! SLUR, FUSSY, DOXX, AND CRUMB

June 23rd, 2016 by

“New Blood” is our weekly feature spotlighting new bands from around the world! See below for info on how to submit. Now, check out some killer new shit…

Band name:
SLUR

Date & location formed:
Fall 2014, Philadelphia.

Reason for forming:
The band progressed naturally out of us meeting together once a month to blow off steam from work and to partake in something genuinely enlivening, not dead and mass-produced, through sound. Over the course of the fall and winter we felt certain themes and ideas emerging from our improvisations that we wanted to hone in on.

We want to address power, desire, suffering, sexuality, fantasy, love and hate without adhering to any particular pre-conceived attitude or playing style. Our songs are fleshed out from free-form improvisations to reflect the spontaneity which we want to manifest.

We wish to give shape to otherwise unnameable desires.

What are your lyrics about?
Intoxication, regret, fear, failure, strength, masochism, romanticized despair, fractured masculinity, loss, hauntings.

How would you describe your sound?
Cavernous, dream-like, meditative, gothic, an angel exploding. Someone once described it as “wasted in the passenger seat of a car.”

What’s in the future for this band?
We have been separated for a while geographically but will be reunited in the fall, when we will begin work on pushing our sound into different realms, releasing a record and developing our live show. Until then we will be playing one-off gigs, practicing when we can and working on

Band name:fussy demo artwork
FUSSY

Date & location formed:
April 2016 in Santa Rosa, CA.

Reason for forming:
I play in two other bands that are other peoples projects and I wanted to start something that was mine and be able to play by my own rules.

What are your lyrics about?
A sour friendship. The songs are about loving someone you cant trust and the frustration that comes from this. The songs are about FUSSY.

How would you describe your sound?
It’s anxious and noisy but fun.

What’s in the future for this band?
Im dubbing tapes of the demo right now…and printing shirts….and going to record an EP around halloween. I’m in the middle of booking a tour with a band called OVVN that should happen in Aug.

Band name:
DOXX

Date & location formed:
Formed in March 2016 in Ottawa, ON, Canada.

DOXX (photo by Pelluco Fernandez)

DOXX (photo by Pelluco Fernandez)

Reason for forming:
The Ottawa hardcore scene is (predominantly) macho garbage. We hope to shake things up a little with a femme-fronted political hardcore punk band in a city of basketball shorts and bands who identify as “hardcore, not punk” (gross).

What are your lyrics about?
Seven month winters draining your desire to do anything at all; heteronormativity and toxic masculinity in the punk scene; masculine / flexing / powerlifting hardcore dudes.

How would you describe your sound?
Straight forward hardcore punk tinged with slime.

What’s in the future for this band?
Aiming to put out a 7″ and do a short US tour. Until then, shaking up macho hardcore lineups and creating discomfort through Sof’s unabashed feminine anger.

Band name:
CRUMB is Damon, Oskar, Brenayin, Cam.

Date & location formed:
April twentieth in the year of our Lord, 1969 in Vancouver BC.

Reason for forming:
Freedom, man.

What are your lyrics about?
Being human in a society designed by aliens

How would you describe your sound?
Our demo sounds better after you throw it in the garbage.

What’s in the future for this band?
Our demo is coming out on tape on Slow Death Records. Other than that, we’ll see what the big man upstairs has in store for us.
