Infuriate / Subvermes split EP
Hot new EP seeing gruff crust machine INFURIATE from Minneapolis teaming up with SUBVERMES from São Paulo, and as expected, this is a by-the-book bollocking. I am not sure whether INFURIATE’s songs were recorded after the ones on their new album, but in terms of sound, we are swimming in a very similar ocean of downtuned, old school crustcore with something of a grindcore edge, not unlike DISASSOCIATE grabbing drinks with DESTROY! and MAN THE CONVEYOR, but the rather muddy metallic production somewhat impairs the energy and impact of the songwriting to my ears. However, it is still heavy and hard-hitting enough, and the two numbers work perfectly on this format. Will certainly do the job for the crust army. The other side is graced with four songs of fast, punishing, and energetic old school Brazilian crusty hardcore thrash with those typically aggressive vocals and that distinct flow and diction. Classic angry and raw pummeling São Paulo hardcore with a spontaneity and straightforwardness that must be commended. Fans of vintage RATOS DE PORÃO should take note. This band smokes. A very cool split.
