Sick

Dark Age Kali-Yuga EP

This four song EP sung half in German and half in English leaves me wanting a translation, and the two English ones, “Remember Soweto,” and “Man vs Nature,” have simple but admirable lyrics. There’s one mid-tempo punk song, one slower ballad, and a couple catchy, crunchy songs with gnarly vocals and a stab at originality. Pretty good.

The Brains of Humans The Brains of Humans cassette

Despite the sometimes rough sound quality, there’s a lot to check out here. Intermixing news reports and music, there’s a compelling reality at work here—almost an industrial nature to their approach—which pervades their punk and thrash, an accent on atmosphere and meaning, not slickness.

The Decay Tonight (Back From the Death) EP

DECAY explores the grungy edges of messy, chaotic thrash in a way that makes most Italian thrash outfits sound disciplined. Tim says this record sounds like it was recorded on their third rehearsal, and that may not be too far from the real truth.

V/A There’s No Message Like No Message cassette

A pretty swell comp featuring some big names (DEAD MILKMEN, INSTIGATORS, etc.), and a host of smaller acts like BILLY & THE WILLIES, CIVILISED SOCIETY?, etc. Good stuff.
